His films have taken the entertainment industry by storm, with many merchandise items sold over time, such as T-shirts or Pop Figures like the ones provided by Funko in UK and Europe. But the enduring popularity of the superhero doesn’t have much to do with his super-human abilities, nor is it related to his creepy yet cool costume. Fans love Spiderman so much because he is relatable; after all, he is just a guy dealing with life issues, just like all the other people.

After the original 2002 Spiderman movie, which was a phenomenon, many other Spidey films have been released, but not all of them have met fans’ expectations. Let’s explore together the Spiderman universe through this ranking of all movie versions.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Directed by Marc Webb, this movie is a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man film, launched in 2012. While the relationship between Peter and Gwen is well portrayed, the film fumbles its villains, and something is flat about the enterprise. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stands out through the special effects, yet its overabundance of characters and unfocused narrative prevents it from being more than just a mediocre movie. With an average rating of 6.6/10, it received a lot of criticism, being deemed flawed and disappointing. Humanity seems to be missing from it, and the characters' motivations don’t seem to make any sense at all. But despite all the bad aspects of the movie, we should still give praise to the main actors for their outstanding performance.

Spider-Man 3

Released in 2007, Spider-Man 3 is the final film of Sam Raimi’s trilogy, casting Kristen Dunst, Tobey Maguire, and James Franco. While there are some cool things about the movie, overall, it doesn’t have the elements required to achieve success. Besides having a messy plot, the characters are also underdeveloped, and too many plot holes exist in the movie. Raimi set a high bar with the first two Spiderman movies, but sadly, the final one didn’t make it to that level.

The Amazing Spider-Man

This reboot of the Spider-Man movie may not be jaw-dropping, but it isn't the worst either. It is watchable enough (some fans really enjoyed it), and Garfield and Stone make a great Peter-Gwen couple. Not to mention Peter’s personality is strikingly different from the first 2002 version of the movie, displaying a need to make the world a better place. One negative aspect of the film is the conspiratorial subplot referring to Peter’s deceased scientist father.

Spider-Man: Far from Home

Far from Home is the sequel to Homecoming, starring Tom Holland in the role of Peter Parker, portraying a more enthusiastic and wholly different character than the one played previously by Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire. There are some great moments between Peter and MJ in the movie, and Mysterio is also an excellent part of the story. The setting is also different from the other Spider-Man movies, making it a nice change of pace for the series. Overall, this movie version is enjoyable, although there are some plot holes and flaws.

Spider-Man

The original Spider-Man movie remains among the best, although it can't be ranked 1st. However, it was the catalyst for showing how great superhero movies can be, so it deserves to be praised for the script and the dynamic between Peter and Mary Jane (which was incredibly well-played). How could we ever forget the iconic upside-down kiss scene? The movie doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the characters, and the origin story is also well told. Although the action scenes aren’t always great, the movie is satisfying overall.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

This movie is the first one starring Tom Holland, and it is genuinely refreshing, mainly because the character is younger. Exploring Peter’s struggles to find a balance between his high school life and superhero responsibilities, this version of the film stands out from the rest. It’s hard not to notice the chemistry between Zendaya and Holland, which helps add complexity to Peter’s relationships. Keaton also succeeds in delivering impressive acting by playing Vulture, the villain.

Spider-Man 2

There’s a reason why Spider-Man 2 was often listed as one of the best superhero films. After the phenomenal success of the first movie, Sam Raimi didn’t fail to create another masterpiece. The movie shows Peter’s struggle to be a hero and a man as he tries to inspire hope among citizens and sacrifices his happiness to help others. All characters in the film go through a complex journey balanced with thrilling action sequences.

Spider-Man: No Way Home

This version of the Spider-Man movie is packed with so much action and emotion, so it only makes sense to rank him among the best. Just the fact that all three Spider Men are in the same film is enough to make it exceptional. But it’s not just that – the movie takes you on an adventure where Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland team up to take down notable villains. Although there are some issues with the story, the great aspects of the film outweigh everything that went wrong.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

This movie is genuinely incredible, succeeding in capturing the vibe of the Spider-Man comics like anything never seen before. Following Miles Morales in his struggle to use his powers, the story of the animation is captivating and without any holes. It is a reminder of how important connection is for humans and that everyone has unique gifts and skills which they can use to make a difference in the world. A real inspiration!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

And we’re finally here! This animation is by far one of the best Spider-Man movies ever to exist, as it succeeded in bringing a new vision, tone, style and soul to everything that made the film memorable. The characters, the voice acting, as well as the story – they are all impressive. But what makes the animation revolutionary is that it looks like a moving comic book, opening the door to an entirely different world. This Spider-Man version has it all: action, jokes, love, and redemption, making it an impressive superhero film.
