Tuesday, May 13

Graffiti is awesome. Colorful artwork, bubbly-to-sharp lettering and a parade of shapes and styles: It has a life of its own with no end in sight. Spray cans unite to learn about the history of graffiti, techniques of the art form and tools of the trade at The Art of Graffiti. There will also be a demonstration by New York graffiti artist, Desism. In addition be sure to see the ongoing exhibit Off The Wall: Graffiti Art through May 30 at the Caleidoscope Gallery in the Charlotte Art League Gallery. Free. 7:30 p.m. Charlotte Art League Gallery, 1517 Camden Road. 704-376-2787.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
