The Queens Common Read Committee has selected "The Barbarian Nurseries" (2011) by Héctor Tobar for the 2016-2017 Common Read program. A critically-acclaimed book, The Barbarian Nurseries was winner of the California Book Award for Fiction and a Los Angeles Times Best Seller. It was named a Best Book of the Year by the New York Times Book Review, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and Boston Globe. Queens welcomes Tobar to campus on February 20, 2017. The author will conduct a reading and discussion of his novel, "The Barbarian Nurseries."
