Escape Artist

Friday, November 16

Ever just wish you could break free from your reality and enter another world? It's possible. At least, that's what the "Man in Chair" experiences in Broadway's The Drowsy Chaperone. The five-time Tony Award-winning musical comes to Charlotte with its original story of a normal guy and his great escape. Georgia Engel of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Everybody Loves Raymond rejoins the cast as "Mrs. Tottendale." Running through Nov. 18. 8 p.m. $25-$70. Belk Theater, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000. www.blumenthalcenter.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
