EXHIBIT: Abstraction Volume 2 

This new exhibit is devoted to abstract art and features works by six artists from around the U.S.: Anne Raymond (whose piece "Slow Ride" is pictured) and Ralph Turturro of New York, Javier Lopez Barbosa of New Mexico, Cheryl Johnson of North Carolina and Hawaii, Cheryl Chapman of Kentucky and David Peterson of Georgia.

Opening reception on June 3, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Exhibit continues through June 29. Elder Gallery, 1427 South Blvd. 704-370-6337.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
