History buffs or not the A Day In Pompeii exhibition is a must-see. It tells the story of the ancient Roman city Pompeii before the catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius left it buried and forgotten. It displays authentic artifacts, religious relics, cooking items, furniture, frescoes, jewelry and more, all adding up to more than 250 well-preserved items. Other highlights include plaster casts of preserved men and women (and a little dog too), who were unable to escape that devastating day in history. Through Jan. 4, 2009. A Day In Pompeii. $17-$20. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m.-6 p.m. Discovery Place, 301 North Tryon St. 704-372-6261. www.discoveryplace.org.
