Hump Day and a new Hom

Verona's Wednesday activities and a non-smoking venue

I am writing you from an elevator in the Sixth Street Parking Garage ... because by writing I can duck my head, conceal my peripheral vision and thus enable myself to tune out the amateur porn going on behind me. As I write, there is an older, hygiene-lacking blonde chick being thrusted against the wall by a much skinnier, goofy guy with an overactive pelvis. What the hell did I walk into, a scene from Laura Crotch: Womb Raider? I guess they were putting the "hump" in hump day.

I, on the other hand, celebrated hump day in my own PG-13 rated bliss. And by bliss I'm referring to the party 360 Inc. throws at Verona Italian Eatery and Lounge every Wednesday.

Verona, located in the Ivy building where Hoops and Dreams used to be, has brought to Uptown just what it needs -- another dance floor. That, and one less sports bar. Said dance floor gets a lot of hump day action (and apparently so does this elevator). There were more people doing the Soulja Boy dance at Verona than the electric slide at a wedding. The boys of 360 Inc. showed me how to do the Superman; check out Barney the dinosaur's rendition of Soulja Boy on YouTube ... it kinda looked like that.

360 Inc. has come full circle and added some more promoters and DJ Kopasetic to their operation; their parties are VIP without being overly exclusive with a high cover charge. The Chosen One, a local rapper who looks like he came from the same womb as Nelly, performed, and even Sean May was there barely hitting his head on Verona's low ceilings.

Home Sweet Hom Uptown has a new home away from home ... Hom (long o). One of the Hom owners, Roland Ashley, gave me a tour of the "house" and a sneak peak of a new home for Charlotte nightlife. It's essentially three different venues under one roof. I'm talking a dining room -- the restaurant, a basement -- the lounge, a penthouse -- the club, a two story 3,500 square foot outdoor patio lined with bamboo -- the terrace and garden. And they even have a study for dorks like me to hang out in.

They're going to be the hosts with the most, but you can't smoke in their house. Hom is Charlotte nightlife's non-smoking section. Charlotte should be just as excited about the opening of Hom as the EpiCentre. You know what they say -- there's no place like home.

Speaking of which, I wish I could bang my heels together and chant that in order to wisk me out of this elevator porn I've found myself in. The elevator chimes: Jeep level, and like a "bat out of el" I'm out of here.

Speaking of 4.17000
