LECTURE: Fareed Zakaria

Tuesday, Oct. 26

Columnist and CNN host Fareed Zakaria will visit Belk Theater tonight to lecture on politics, the economy and other worldly affairs. Having released two national best sellers — The Post-American World and The Future of Freedom — and countless news columns (featured in Newsweek International and The Washington Post, to name a couple), you'd better bet Zakaria has a lot to talk about. Zakaria will speak for 45 minutes and take questions from the audience for 15 minutes. $40. 7 p.m. Belk Theater, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000. www.blumenthalcenter.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
