Michael McCoy

A hockey-playing actor/singer

When Michael McCoy's not working for Richardson Electrical Equipment Company in Cornelius, playing hockey or being auctioned off at a cancer benefit, the 25-year-old Charlotte native is fighting for his claim to fame with his acting and vocal skills.

"I've got enough talent to make it in acting or music. Whatever opportunity presents itself, that's the road I'll take," McCoy says. He placed second in Charlotte's American Idol audition by singing "In the Still of the Night." "I killed it," he says. Check out his vocal styles at www.myspace.com/qcstylenc.

"When I first started hockey, I was 11. I remember watching everyone out there skating, and I started crying. I just wanted to do it that bad. I had a passion for it," McCoy says. "I still play on a roller hockey team; we're called the Hitmen."

He did his first commercial for a South Carolina law firm about three years ago, and he's joined Dale Earnhardt Jr. twice in TV ads for Wrangler Jeans and KFC. "Those are probably my most favorite. I made the most money on those too," he says. Recently, he finished the indie film, Without Hope.

McCoy raised $250 at an American Cancer Society benefit for children with lymphoma. "It was a bachelor/bachelorette auction," he says. "People placed bids for the guy or girl that they wanted. No one else raised that much money, except one guy who brought a ton of people."
