MUSIC: Off the Record with Matrimony and Katherine Whalen

Wednesday, July 20

It's pretty darn fitting that Matrimony is a band comprised of a husband and wife (Jimmy Brown and Ashlee Hardee Brown), as well as some other musicians. But don't go thinking every song is a lovey dovey pledge of devotion — like, say the bands song "Last Love". The group has also made vows to creatively conjure songs based off of varying subject matter. Needless to say it makes for an interesting Off the Record — CL's music editor Jeff Hahne asks the questions between songs — where you'll get insight into the meanings behind music. Katherine Whalen (Think: Squirrel Nut Zippers) will also be there to perform new solo material from her upcoming album. $8-$10. 8 p.m.-11 p.m. The Evening Muse, 3227 N. Davidson St., Charlotte. 704-376-3737. www.eveningmuse.com.
