MUSIC: Pilot rock

Post-grunge rockers The Stone Temple Pilots will take the stage of Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on Aug. 17 to perform their hard-rock, heavy-riffed best of '90s hits and newbies. To be sober or not to be sober? That's the ultimate question, for frontman Scott Weiland, who is known for his frequent bouts of boozed up performances. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to open. $20-49. 7 p.m. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, 707 Pavilion Blvd. 704-549-5555.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
