Soul pioneer

Saturday, April 7

Crooner Percy Sledge will forever be pegged to the classic ballad "When a Man Loves a Woman," released over 40 years ago. But Sledge's pipes have serenaded countless with songs ranging from country-soul to the blues and rock. Sledge is touring in support of Shining Through the Rain, his first studio recording in over a decade. It's a varied collection that proves Sledge can still belt out gritty, Southern soul and R&B that take the listener back to a simpler, more romantic era of pop. $25-$30. 9 p.m. Dino's, 124 South St., Gastonia, N.C. 704-867-7205. www.downtowndinos.com.
