Standing Behind The Shield

Friday, April 20

Lately, on every media outlet available, the names of Officers Sean Clark and Jeff Shelton have been a constant. It's about time someone thought to lay to the rest the lip service and truly celebrate these two men's sacrifice the right way -- by drinking and dancing the night away! The Forum and Cosmos Café hosts Honor The Blue, a benefit for all who wear the uniform, featuring live music from The Belmont Playboys, U-phonik and La Chocha Loca. Come out and say thank you to the men and women that do their best to give this city some semblance of law and order every day. All door donations will be matched dollar for dollar by The Forum and Cosmos and will benefit the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Benevolent Fund. 8 p.m. $10 suggested donation. The Forum, 300 N. Tryon St. 704-375-8765. www.thecharlotteforum.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
