The Jewish Diaspora in Latin America: A Historical Overview

Queens and The Center for Latino Studies invites you to a presentation on the history of the Jewish presence in Latin America. Dr. Jürgen Buchenau will lead the discussion on the diaspora in three phases: colonial rule, when Spanish authorities sought to suppress Jewish immigration under Inquisition-era laws; the nineteenth and early twentieth century, when mass immigration from Europe into Latin America's newly independent nations boosted the Jewish population; and contemporary Latin America.
