The Veldt, Jason Herring & The Mystery Plan, Occam's Portal

Led by twin brothers Daniel and Danny Chavis, The Veldt burst upon Chapel Hill’s early-’90s alt-rock scene and promptly spread confusion. Were they shoegazers? Their cloud-layer of guitars and their soulful, muffled-in-cotton vocals sure sounded dreampoppy. Or were they a hybrid of indie rock and hip-hop? Their blissed-out velvet-morning vibe threaded through some awfully rawboned beats. Our theory is they traveled back in time from 2017 where that hyphenated-genre shit no longer matters.
