THEATER: Actor's Theatre of Charlotte presents Yankee Tavern

Saturday, Nov. 21

Actor's Theatre of Charlotte's latest production, Yankee Tavern, is a teasing mystery that will have your pulse racing -- and that's without alcohol in your system. The play centers around a young couple who work as proprietors at the Yankee Hotel; they face some serious scrutiny when a series of events begin to unravel, ultimately suggesting conspiracy theories in key events in American history. When a stranger pops into the picture, more doubts arise. To trust a stranger or not to trust a stranger ... that is the question. $10-$29. Nov.21, 8 p.m.; Nov. 22, 2:30 p.m.; Nov. 25, 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 27-28, 8 p.m.; Nov. 29, 2:30 p.m.; Dec. 2-3, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 4-5, 8 p.m. Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, 650 E. Stonewall St. 704-342-2251.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
