Oct. 5: A day filled with eating and drinking

Posted By on Fri, Oct 4, 2013 at 12:43 PM

Four upcoming food and drink events have my mouth watering for Saturday, Oct. 5. From the west side to SouthPark, there are more than enough opportunities to satisfy your hunger on this fall day. The only question is which of these your stomach will convince you at attend.

* The second annual Taste of FreeMore gives attendees the opportunity to feast on food and beer from west-side restaurants and breweries from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Savor Café, Picante Mexican Grill and Open Kitchen will be among the featured restaurants, with Four Friends and Birdsong Brewing offering a selection of craft beers. Food prices range from $1-$5. For more information, visit www.freemorewest.com.

* Olde Mecklenburg Brewery's Mecktoberfest will take place from noon to 10 p.m. and is expected to sell out quickly. This German-style celebration comes complete with food and beer, as well as entertainment courtesy of Josh Daniel Duo, ToneBlazers and Holzhackern Tyrolean, a traditional nine-piece Bavarian band. The venue has limited entry, so for those who wish to attend, arrive early to pick up your $5 ticket at the door. For more information, visit www.oldmeckbrew.com.

* The Southeast Crabfeast may have started out as a small gathering of coastal food lovers but has since turned into one of Charlotte's most anticipated food events. This year, the food will be served at Park Road Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Be sure to bring your appetite for the all-you-can-eat buffet of Charleston blue crabs and low country boil fixings. Adult tickets start at $25 and kids (10 and under) for $10. For more information visit www.southeastcrabfeast.com.

* Great Grapes! Wine, Arts and Music Festival features select North Carolina vineyards and will be held at Symphony Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wineries such as Bottoms Up, Carolina Heritage, Slightly Askew and Southern Charm will be among those offering tastings. Live music includes the tunes of Celtic rock band Uncle Hamish and the Hooligans. Adult admission is $25 in advance ($30 on site) and comes with your very own souvenir wine glass and unlimited samples and performances. For more information visit www.uncorkthefun.com.
