What's hot this spring -- Part 1

Posted By on Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 10:00 AM

Recently I sat down with Arlene Goldstein, the vice president of trend merchandising and fashion direction at Belk, to find out some upcoming fashion trends for Spring 2009.

Part one of this two-part series is all about the neck and what you can put there to make a statement. In the spring, the neck is a very important part of the body to adorn — for women and men.

• Scarves have become a "seasonless accessory," Goldstein says. Women will use colorful scarves to accentuate their outfits regardless of what the temperature is like outside.

• Another accessory that will be big to frame your face with this spring is the statement necklace. You can go for a layered look with beads or bold, exotic colors. Anything to make a statement.

• For men, bold-colored neckwear is recommended. A bright, solid-colored tie will set your suit apart from the rest of the corporate types.
