NewsDay writer Anne Bratskeir calls the fall line of Diesel "hobo chic."
I have to agree.
There's not much in the collection -- lingerie-type tops layered beneath frumpy coats on the women, rumpled suits on the men -- that you'd see on bankers Jill and Joe here in the Queen City, but that's probably why I like it.
Satish Cherian felt like Uptown was screaming for retail. To answer that cry, he recently opened O1NE (pronounced ONE), a skate-themed clothing boutique, on the corner of Trade and Mint streets.
"Truthfully, if I wasn't going to do the store in Uptown Charlotte, I wasn't going to do the store in Charlotte," says Cherian, originally from New Jersey. "I just feel like there's so much potential here, and there's no real retail. I feel like I'm bringing that whole boutique style here, with labels that are up and coming, that you don't see everywhere else. I've got some of the hottest brands, from New York, L.A., Sweden, Japan."
When you walk into the store, the first thing you'll notice is dozens of skateboards hung up on the wall. Cherian says that he's a skateboarder and just wants to add to the huge skate scene Charlotte already has here. "Basically bring that whole up north, east coast culture down here," he says.

Designer Tracy Reese churns out feminine yet edgy clothing, and her fall line lives up to that reputation. She's got everything from frilly short skirts to fur-lined jackets; bright patterns, bold neckwear (even this fur scarf that hangs off to the side) and silky, romantic tops. One outfit I definitely didn't like was this gold lacquer pant suit. Yup, gold jacket and gold pants.
From WWD.com:
Of all the ideas outlined in Tracy Reeses show notes romance, understated glamour and post- Impressionistic portraiture among them eclectic was the most accurate description. Indeed, Reeses collection was less about a unified theme than a lot of pretty pieces.

This morning, despite the icky weather, IKEA opened 15 minutes early after Mayor Pat McCrory and some of the company's top officials sawed a log, a Swedish tradition meant to welcome new guests. The crowd entered the store, screaming, to applause; the lobby was packed with IKEA staffers, some dressed in Swedish garb, cheering, taking pictures and offering high fives to the store's new customers.
Hundreds of Queen City residents waited in line, some for 12 hours or more, hoping they would be one of the first 100 through the door those folks received a free IKEA chair. The first 2,500 through the door received a gift card, values ranged from 50 cents to $250. (Mine was $50, which is going to Twitter user @IKEA_Devotee. Even though she's been pumping up Charlotte citizens about today's opening for months, she wasn't able to be there this morning.)
Most of the people in line said they were there for the experience, not necessarily to buy anything in particular. Though, several mentioned the store's famous Swedish meatballs, available in the second floor cafe, one of the store's two cafes, as a good-enough reason to stand in line in the freezing rain. (They are good.)

Sexy R&B singer Justin Timberlake is one of four folks behind the label William Rast, which showcased at NY Fashion Week Monday.
From the Telegraph:
The name of the brand comes from Timberlake and Ayalas grandfathers and in less than two years it has come to represent a realistic, tough-chic style of dressing which is energetic, powerful and as far removed from girlie fashion as it is possible to get.
