Another casualty of the economy, locally owned Gifty Gifts (5806-A3 Prosperity Church Road) out in the University area is set to close soon. Sad face.
From an e-mail sent out to mailing list subscribers:
Its time to retire said Dewayne of Gifty Gifts. We opened Gifty Gifts with the mindset of serving the gifting needs of our community. Our idea was to provide a gift store with friendly customer service and great quality gifts. In February of 2005 Dewayne and Sharon opened Gifty Gifts. It had all the qualifications needed: location, parking, no other gift stores nearby, near an anchor food store and other supporting stores. So with their life savings and a desire to offer a friendly shopping environment to the community they opened the doors.
In the last 5 years we have so enjoyed our wonderful customers. Many times we have laughed or cried together. Hopefully we made a difference. We invested our life savings and the economy has not been kind. We will miss you so much and will miss wrapping your lovely gifts. Thanks for shopping with us.
Stop by soon to wish the owners good luck in their future endeavors.
A little Twitter bird told us that Intermix in Southpark is closing. A quick phone call to the store confirms the rumor. No definite date has been released, and there won't be one of those "sad to see you go but look at the great deal I got on your 'going out of business' sale" sale.
According to a Charlotte Business Journal article back in 2008, Intermix Chief Executive Khajak Keledjian opened the Charlotte location, in addition to at least four others, based off where their customers were: "The Web site really was a great gauge. We saw purchases, and it told us that there are a lot of customers from the Carolinas. And the success of the Atlanta store also was interesting -- it's the same mentality here. And the fact that Charlotte is really taking off attracted us."
If you love Intermix, hurry up and visit before it's too late!

Just kidding. If you really love me, you'll just GIVE me $3 million.
Victoria's Secret unveiled a real DIAMOND of a bra actually, it was 2,350 white, champagne and cognac-colored diamonds at its annual fashion show last week. According to Luxist.com, the 2009 Harlequin Fantasy bra can be worn in five ways: strapless, halter, crossback, one-strap or classic and has a total carat weight of 150 carats.
Yeah, I just can't imagine having that much bling weighing down my chest. And it's definitely not something you could wear underneath your clothes. Hell, if I or someone I love spent $3 million on a bra studded with previous diamonds, I'd want everyone to know. I guess I'd have to walk around topless, which isn't ideal considering the weather right now ... but then again, if I pimped out my $3 million bra, someone would probably try to rob me. And that just seems degrading ... being robbed of my undergarments.
But if you're really interested, click here for info on how to order one.
In light of the upcoming holiday shopping season, I found this very timely. On Nov. 22, Urban Dictionary's Word of the Day was "man chair":
A man chair is the chair that men sit in while their partner is shopping for long periods of time. They can be found in almost any clothing or shoe store. What can we, as men do while our gf's or wives are shopping, we can sit in a man chair.
So fellas, as you accompany your women while out shopping this season, look for the man chair!
Sometimes I wander into the toy section of Target and I just can't help but think, why didn't they have this kind of cool stuff when I was a kid? Well, in the spirit of giving, I can at least make sure some lucky kid can enjoy the cool gadgets that I didn't have in my day by donating to TOYS FOR TOTS and reap a small benefit from it as well. This year, Scout & Molly's is an official drop-off site. If you bring a toy (new and unwrapped, please) into the store between now and Christmas, you will receive 15 percent off your purchase. What are you waiting for?

Local makeup artist Jami Svay, as featured in the Charlotte Observer, Blu Magazine, and today on waxMaMa.com, has made it big (and I don't say that just because we're mentioning her here on Klepto). Her line of lip balm, Tastee Cosmetics, was recently the star of the show on QVC. Check out the video.
Sneakerheads, if you've got plans tonight, I highly recommend you cancel them. A shoe that collectors have been anticipating release for years is finally coming, and it's coming to your locally owned Black Sheep. The Nike SB Dunk High Premium RESN/ Gucci (Deep Forest/ Paprika) will be released tomorrow.
From the good folks at Black Sheep:
This particular shoe has a long (and legendary) history and it is finally seeing the light of day with an official release. Originally a part of the famous Nike SB Team Manager Series, the Girl Skateboards team manager Sam Smyth created this Gucci-inspired colorway, but it was shelved in favor of the Diamond Tiffany Dunk Low. Collectors have been literally anticipating this shoe for years ever since a few samples surfaced fetching prices in the thousands among private collectors. We originally planned to release these on Black Friday, but the phone has been ringing off the hook all week, so they will be available here on Saturday, November 14th at 11:00 am.
Did you catch that, folks? 11 a.m. on Saturday! For more information, read a list of FAQ owner Josh has on the site. This is sure to be a big deal.
Jordanos is ready and roaring in their new space at The Village at Robinson Farm (8440 Rea Road, Suite 100), and will be hosting a trunk show Nov. 12 (tomorrow!) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Collection previews from Ben Sherman Accessories, Genetic Denim, Be Seduced, and local designer Narada. Bonus: Any pre-orders during the trunk show will receive 20 percent off!
