Signs of closure at the Home Depot Design Center

Posted By on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 11:05 AM

Doesn't it seem like the Home Depot in Midtown just opened? And now it's already closing. Jeez.

The news broke on Monday, so Tuesday I went to see if there were any signs of the impending closure. The answer is, yup. Notices near the registers stated: "All sales final, effective immediately. No checks."

You'll also find all merchandise in the Home Decorators Collection is already all on sale, 25 percent off. And if you scrounge around in that sectioned-off area of home decor, you can find some specific items on sale, like this statue pictured below, with blue stickers. (Was originally $49.99 and is marked down to $22.99)

Obama's suit maker files for Chapter 11

Posted By on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 2:45 PM

In economic times as hard as these, it doesn't even help to dress the president on an historic Inauguration Day.

From MarketWatch.com:

Hartmarx Corp., the Chicago parent of prominent apparel brands like Hart Schaffner Marx, Hickey-Freeman and many others, said late on Friday that it filed to reorganize under Chapter 11 of federal bankruptcy law.

Hartmarx is President Barack Obama's suit maker, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, which reported that the company made the tux, topcoat and suit for his Jan. 20 inauguration

Paying for bottled water gets a tad ridiculous

Posted By on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 2:24 PM

So, I'm sure there are people out there who can still throw their money out the window and wave goodbye to it without so much as a second thought. For you folks, you'll be interested in checking this out. For the rest of us, I'm posting this for the WTF factor.

French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier has designed the 2009 Limited Edition Bottle for Evian. Yeah, Evian WATER.

The WTF comes after this sentence ... are you ready for it?

Each bottle of WATER costs $13.95. A case of 12 bottles costs $118.

Yeah, I'm just gonna leave you to marinate on that.
