If I get one more e-mail from a black person calling Hillary Clinton a bitch, I am going to scream. First of all, this election has confirmed for me that sexism is alive and well in the United States. The fact that so many people are comfortable circulating e-mails calling her a bitch in jest, seriousness, or both, is indicative of this issue. Sexism is so pervasive in this country that we do not even see it. For black people to use a pejorative term to describe a woman inside or outside of the community is deplorable. Funny. She and Bill used to be considered black by those with extremely low standards for conferring race upon people. Now, she's just a "bitch" from Arkansas. Hmm. That's mighty black of you. I guess that's part of her "blackness" since that term was used freely to describe female slaves by slave owners. Coupled with the fact that most of the e-mails have come from women, this is what I call a "WTF?" moment. While you are busy calling Hillary out of her name, you might want to check out her platform, which is the only one with any proposals that will benefit women. She has proposals about healthcare, daycare and women's rights. That "bitch" was the first person to confront female genital mutilation abroad, to demand that the U.S. intervene in Rwanda, and has played a major role in the Children's Defense Fund. You don't have to support her, but you don't have to denigrate her either. Think before you send.
