Buy conscience-alleviating holiday cards

If you're sometimes embarrassed by an indulgence in Christmas materialism, here's one way to ease your troubled mind and send well-wishes to friends and family.

holiday gift cards that honor Mecklenburg County folks who are struggling to provide basic essentials to their families.

Snowflakes, colored by children of families served by the agency, are displayed on the cards. You may buy them at the organization's offices at 500-A Spratt St. near Uptown, by phone at 704-371-3001 x 151, or online.

Crisis Assistance Ministry helps people in emergencies with rent, utilities and household goods. Last year, the agency helped more than 70,000 people who spend an average of 70 percent of their income on housing and utilities.
