Early voting for the Nov. 4 election begins tomorrow. Registered voters may vote at any polling location in Mecklenburg County. Other things to keep in mind: Republicans determined the party order of the ballot (recent changes allow the sitting governor to do so), and though you will be asked to show an ID at the polls, you will not be required to have one until the 2016 elections. Here's why turning out for this race is important.
Speaking of political strategy, N.C. Senate President Phil Berger stood beside a magistrate in Rockingham County as John Kallam Jr. told other supporters who had gathered at the local courthouse that he resined his position because marrying same-sex couples was against his religion. Berger and House Speaker Thom Tillis have vowed to fight a recent ruling that overturned Amendment One.
A legend in American journalism has died. Not only did Ben Bradlee serve as Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's editor during Watergate, but the former Washington Post editor helped transform the paper into a leading global voice. Bradlee died of natural causes at his home in Washington, D.C. He was 93.
Leading drug producers will join forces to make an Ebola vaccine by next year. Johnson & Johnson will produce 1 million vaccines and is in talks with GlaxoSmithKline, which is producing another vaccine. "The U.S. group's head of research Paul Stoffels said the two companies would support each other's work and could combine their vaccines if that made sense, while other companies without an Ebola treatment are ready to provide production capacity."
