Berlin in Lights at Belk Theater

Posted By on Fri, May 8, 2009 at 12:06 PM

Berlin is one of the coolest cities in the world. Take it from a gal who has been there twice and can’t stop longing to visit again. If its deep history, elaborate architecture and nightlife (via pubs, clubs, theaters and concerts) isn’t enough to have you booking a flight right this minute, you must be in the middle of a recession. Yeah ... that might have something to do with a halt in your travels. But, if you’re still craving some German action, the Charlotte Symphony has your fix. Berlin in Lights concert & festival, which goes down for two days - Fri., May 8 and Sat., May 9 - at Belk Theater, should do the trick. Christof Perick conducts, while Nicolai’s “Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor,” Mendelssohn’s “Incidental Music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Weill’s “Suite from Threepenny Opera,” and Künneke’s “Dance Suite for Jazz Band and Orchestra” will be performed. In addition, a pre-concert festival featuring German history displays and activities, presentations about Weimar period art, film, theater and music, displays by local German businesses, German food, and — last but not least — beer. Tickets are $15-$72. Festival begins at 6:30 p.m.; Concert begins at 8 p.m.
