Why Tameka didnt go to school.
Tamekas mother couldnt face sending her child to school last fall. Tameka has a learning disability and was held back twice. Other children already picked on her. Now, her family is homeless, living with a family member. Tamekas mother had no money to buy her daughter school uniforms and supplies. That was just more for her to be teased about. So, Tameka didnt go to school. Learning of the situation, school authorities connected Tamekas family with A Childs Place. Soon, Tameka went to class, dressed like the other children and with the school supplies she needed. All school year, her ACP social worker has continued to work with Tameka and was recently a surprise guest at the school assembly where Tameka won a Student Award. With help from A Childs Place, Tameka has come a long way from the little girl who didnt go to school.
