USA Today has the first look at M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, a live-action adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon series. (See the article here.) The story follows the adventures of Aang, played by newcomer Noah Ringer, who must put aside his childish ways and stop the Fire Nation (led by Slumdog Millionaire's Dev Patel) from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.
It will be interesting to see what Shyamalan does with an established franchise like Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's rumored that he wants to do a trilogy, with one film dedicated to each season the series ran on Nickelodeon. Lets hope Shyamalan can bounce back from The Happening and deliver another blockbuster hit.
