The former Wachovia, swallowed whole by Wells Fargo, has lost some clout on the world stage. But, we saw that coming, didn't we? What we don't know is how many jobs will be axed.
Even as it cuts jobs here, Wells has continued to stress its dedication to the city, with CEO Stumpf calling it one of the bank's 10 hubquarters in his annual letter to shareholders. The bank plans to make the same charitable donations in Charlotte this year as last year (about $8 million) and says it will occupy space in the new skyscraper it's building on South Tryon Street, although Duke Energy will put its name on the tower. As a strong, stable and growing company, Wells Fargo is and will continue to be an important and vital part of the Charlotte community, spokeswoman Mary Eshet said.
