1st Amendment doesn't count when you threaten the Prez, apparently

I'm torn on this one: A guy tells folks in a Waffle House and a hotel that he wanted to kill then-candidate Obama and now he's facing jail time, a $3,000 fine and three years of supervision. Yeah, he talked about buying a gun, too.

But, talk is talk. How many times in your life have you said that you want to kill someone, shoot someone or smack someone? How many videos are there on YouTube that say worse things about President Obama? (Answer: Lots.) Hell, last fall John McCain/ Sarah Palin rallies were littered with people threatening Obama's life, calling him names and making up facts about his life and career.

What are the authorities going to do about all of those folks?

More from Charlotte.com:

A Union County man has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for threatening to kill then-presidential candidate Barack Obama on two occasions in July 2008.

Jerry Michael Blanchard, 48, was also fined $3,000 and ordered to be placed under supervised release for three years following his prison term.

In case you forgot what they were like, here's what the scene was like at last fall's McCain/ Palin rallies:

More? O.K.
