There are bad movies. Then there are atrocious movies. Then there are "so-atrocious-it's-good" movies. That's where Troll 2 comes in. Released in 1990, the low-budget abomination has no relation to its predecessor, Troll 1. Now, almost 20 years later, the film has been garnering a cult following that has spanned the globe thanks to egregious acting, terrible script, and to the unsolicited laughs that it never fails to trigger. Michael Stephenson, the child star of the film, recently created the documentary Best Worst Movie in response to this growing phenomenon. Stephenson had spent most of his life trying to distance himself from this one-in-a-million gem. But the growing buzz around the movie, along with the numerous requested autographs, caused him to embrace his past. The documentary explores the hidden culture that has arisen around Troll 2, and why it developed.
If you haven't seen Troll 2 yet, you can catch a live stream here. It's worth every minute. I recommend seeing the actual film before the documentary to make the latter more relevant.
