News Catawba Riverkeeper wants to see you at March 21 public hearing

Oh, what? You haven't heard of this public meeting yet, or of the state's plans to yank environmental rules? Yeah, I know. That's why I'm posting our Catawba Riverkeeper's plea here, so you will be aware and so you can get involved if you so choose.
REGULATORY PUBLIC HEARING SET FOR CHARLOTTE, MARCH 21 AT 1:00PM
Do you care about the Catawba River basin, North Carolina's coastlines and mountain vistas? Do you think former industrial sites should be cleaned-up fully before being built on? Do you know that state environmental regulators are aided by Catawba Riverkeeper volunteer reports to help enforce violations daily? Lastly, do you know that NC Legislators are interested in striking rules designed to protect NC's natural resources?
A public hearing will be held next Monday, March 21, at Central Piedmont Community College, Harris Campus, Harris Conference Center, 3216 CPCC Harris Campus Drive from 1:00-3:00pm. Sign-up to speak begins at 12:30pm.
A NC Legislature Resolution established the Joint Regulatory Review Committee composed of 9 Senators and 9 Representatives. The stated purpose of the committee is to "work to create a strong environment for private sector job creation by lifting the undue burden imposed by outdated, unnecessary and vague rules."
Of course, we can all recognize and agree that antiquated and vague rules that actually do cost jobs or hinder growth should be reviewed and fixed, if neccessary and appropriate. However, at the 1st public hearing in Wilmington, NC on March 11, some individuals, businesses and organizations used the hearing to identify environment killing bills they would like to have enacted and to attack environmental rules they would like the legislature to remove. Some examples of bills that are being pushed include the Terminal Groins Bill, "No New Rules" Bill, Wetland Buffers Killing Bill, Limited Industrial Clean-Up Bill, Billboards Bill and others.
If you care about North Carolina's environment and the regulations to protect your natural resources, you are needed. Your voice needs to be heard and your presence felt on March 21 at CPCC Harris Campus.

Speakers will be allotted 2-3 minutes to address Committee members. Sign-up for speakers begins at 12:30pm.
I know this is short notice and everyone will not be able to make it. Never fear, there are other ways to make your voice heard.
