  • Rep. Sue Myrick: M.I.A.?

Has anyone seen or heard from Rep. Sue Myrick lately? The last update on her website, as of Monday at 4:50 p.m., is from May 2, 2011, and it's about Osama bin Laden's death.

That's not too alarming; she should be too busy to update her website — she is our congresswoman after all, and Washington D.C. seems like a busy place.

But then last week's MegaVote e-mail alert, a service of Congress.org, came out and indicated she hadn't voted in any of the votes, and then this week's (see photo below) indicated the same thing. That's unusual, because she's usually voting exactly the way the rest of the Republicans in Congress are voting.

We've called her office and are waiting to find out if they know where Rep. Myrick is, and why she hasn't been voting lately.

UPDATE:

Rep. Myrick's office called back and said the Congresswoman has been with her husband here in Charlotte, and that he had "some pretty serious surgery." They also said that members of Congress aren't allowed to vote by proxy, which means they must be present to play.

But, have no fear, Rep. Myrick plans to issue a statement explaining how she would have voted had she been present, like this one from May 31 (that her office just shared with us):

(Washington, DC) – US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) has released the following statement regarding the House vote today to increase the debt limit:

“Our first priority is to get our fiscal house in order – not just continue to spend as if the problem doesn’t exist. Today’s vote reiterated that point. We cannot afford to increase the statutory limit on public debt without immediate and substantial cuts in spending and long-term reforms that will put our nation’s budget on a sustainable path”.

Due to her husband having surgery, Rep. Myrick was unable to be in Washington, DC for this vote. The statement above indicates that she would have voted “No” on HR 1954.

I'm sure we'll all wait with bated breath for future statements. In the meantime, you can check out how other Republicans voted at Congress.org:

And, get to feeling better Mr. Sue Myrick.
