Arts Get Outta Town: Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

For folks fed-up with the DNC and its current takeover of the Q.C., comes a series of special events worthy of crossing county, city, and state lines for.
James Cameron’s 1997 Titanic has nothing on RMS Titanic Inc.’s traveling exhibition, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, currently on view at S.C. State Museum in Columbia.
Rather than giving us only a small, fictionalized account of the chaos surrounding the disaster that claimed 1,500 lives and a pair of star-crossed lovers (played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet), we’re given a solid accurate description of life aboard the forsaken ship through a compelling showcase of more than 125 artifacts recovered from the ship’s debris.
RMS Titanic Inc., the company that owns salvage rights to the ship, has produced several related exhibitions about the historic event over the years. In this one, visitors start out by being given a replica boarding pass with information about an actual passenger that was aboard the ship. In addition to the many artifacts on display, they roam through recreated rooms from the ships quarters with intricate details that lay the foundations for what life aboard the ship was like - down to what passengers brought with them, what they were fed, how the tragic sinking occurred, and emergency evacuation plans and rescue attempts.
Finally, in the “Memorial Gallery” at the end of the exhibition, the fate of passengers on the boarding passes is revealed, providing an emotional exit to an overall educational experience.
