Arts Get Outta Town: Invisible Ink, Disposable, and Richard II

For folks fed-up with the DNC and its current takeover of the Q.C., comes a series of special events worthy of crossing county, city, and state lines for.
Take a time-out for some careful observations of what’s being dubbed as “urban folk art” up in Asheville. The Invisible Ink exhibit includes cool new works on paper by Gabriel Shaffer. They combine graffiti-like features with iconographic characters and contemporary colors fuse on salvaged materials. Just when you thought disposable cameras were a thing of the past, comes an exhibit featuring photos taken by the handy past-time devices. Disposable just may have you reaching for some film. DeSoto Lounge, 504 Haywood Road , Asheville . 828-255-1109. www.desotolounge.com.
For folks unfamiliar with Asheville’s Montford Park Players, I think it’s fair to say the acting troupe is pretty darn entertaining. But don’t go into its performances expecting serious takes on Shakespeare’s finest. Instead, you get rather silly staging’s of classics that have been twisted with futuristic adaptations, sometimes filled with ridiculous props and innuendos. For the Players’ latest outdoor performances of Richard II, the tragedy has been turned into a “punk epic”. Best of all, it’s free to watch (though donations are encouraged).
