The Ringers playing Neighborhood Theatre tonight (02/20/13)

The Ringers

The Ringers aren't exactly The Highwaymen (Cash, Waylon, et al.) or Traveling Wilburys (Orbison, Petty, et al.), but we'll give 'em the "supergroup" title. Boasting a guitarist from Widespread Panic (Jimmy Herring) alongside noted solo performer Wayne Krantz and session musicians who've played with the likes of Ray Charles (bassist Etienne Mbappe), Joni Mitchell (guitarist Michael Landau), and everyone from Steely Dan to Rascal Flatts (drummer Keith Carlock), these guys clearly know what they're doing. Not only that, but they're proficient in genres ranging from rock to funk, jazz, blues and African styles. According to the group's press junk, they got together and wrote some songs to make "a unifying artistic force, one where people put music ahead of their egos..." Solid musicianship and professionalism are sure to abound on the Ringers' brief East Coast tour - peppered, we hope, with a few stories about the Musician's Life from those who've truly lived it. Dustin Hofsess opens. $20-$35. Feb. 20, 8 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. 704-358-9298.
