Two Gallants at Visulite Theatre tonight (6/19/13)

TWO GALLANTS
An unlikely duo, San Francisco natives Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel have been making music independently since 1993. Though the two have been long-time friends, it wasn't until 2004 that they began collaborating on folk/rock project, Two Gallants. After a few label changes and time spent refining their blend of aggressive indie rock and folk, Two Gallants have returned from a five-year hiatus, with the same energy and eclectic rock sound they had circa 2007. Though the two man-band draws from a variety of instruments, including harmonica, guitar and banjo, it is the strangely pleasing sound of the vocal harmony that distinguishes Two Gallants. Returning to U.S. stages for the first time in more than half a decade, Two Gallants bears an unmistakable fierceness on their latest album, The Bloom and the Blight. Combining their Western spirit, with heavy raw-rock instrumentals and a post-modern style, Two Gallants have separated themselves from the slew of Mumford and Sons-esque projects that seem to dominate the genre. $14-$17. June 19, 8 p.m. Visulite Theatre, 1615 Elizabeth Ave. 704-358-9200.
