Girl Talk at Symphony Park tonight (7/13/13)

GIRL TALK
Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, is an American DJ with a knack for engineering dancey mash-ups of classic and modern radio hits. His experimental style of digital sampling ranges from remixes of Nicki Minaj to Elton John and Black Sabbath. Over his 12-year career, Girl Talk has refined his technique, recently pushing toward a less hip-hop, more new-rock sound. A self-proclaimed performer of plunderphonics (a movement begun by John Oswald essentially advocating the theft of copyrighted sounds to make new ones), Girl Talk has managed to skirt by infringement laws. Sometimes condensing more than 10 songs into one fluid track, Girl Talk samples from every genre, creating wildly electric compositions and giving everyone something to dance to. He will perform at the AWOL Music Festival. With Cris Cab, Watch the Duck, Skizzy Mars, Styles & Complete, Simplified, Brandon Kirkley & The Firecrackers, Early Ray, XJ4000. $35-$85. July 13, 1 p.m. Symphony Park, 4400 Sharon Road.
