Boz Scaggs at Knight Theater tonight (7/17/13)

BOZ SCAGGS
Scaggs' foggy, sexy-Kermit-the-Frog voice graced a score of silky '70s hits, but he was more than a one-trick pony. Scaggs cut his teeth in the initial psych-blues incarnation of the Steve Miller Band, and his first few solo LPs boast a horn-driven road band that gives B.B. King's crew a run for its money. His latest LP, Memphis, was recorded at that city's legendary Royal Studios, where icons like Al Green and Otis Rush created signature sounds. That smooth and smoky aura imbues everything Scaggs does nowadays, but he's no newcomer to organic groves. Scaggs is simply displaying the love and respect he's always had for America's roots music. With RayLand Baxter. $44.50-$124.50. July 17, 7:30 p.m. Knight Theater, 430 S. Tryon St. 704-372-1000.
