Fresh Tide: Art + Music + Stuff at Neighborhood Theatre: This brand new art series kicks off at Neighborhood Theatre and is slated to bring monthly installments to NoDa. But it's not all about art. Live music and "stuff" are also on the agenda. Here's the rundown for this Thursday's event: Reception with art by Alice Holleman, Lee Herrera, and Ivy Marzipan at 7 p.m.; Music from DJ Elon at 8 p.m.; Music from Great Architect at 9 p.m. Free from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; $3 after 8 p.m. July 10, 7 p.m. 511 E. 36th St. 704-942-7997. www.neighborhoodtheatre.com.

Women Artists of North Carolina exhibit at Elder Gallery: As the title suggests, Elder Gallery's new exhibit showcases works by female artists with ties to NC. You can expect a number of paintings and photography to be on view. July 11-Aug. 30. 1520 South Tryon St. 704-370-6337. www.elderart.com.

Predator & Play exhibit at Twenty-Two: It goes without saying that this exhibit is going to be interesting. The two person show features artwork by Alexandra Loesser and Jason Watson. Loesser is known around town for her untamed animal and portrait paintings. As for the animals, they don't appear without some sort of spontaneous or whimsical qualities or environment. That means you'll see oil paintings with things like cheetahs sitting stationary among roses and falling petals. Watson primarily draws and uses mixed media as a way to project what seems like scattered facial blue prints. Faces have an eerie look with lots of lines, shadings and just a little color. While some resemble doll heads, others resemble concrete sculptures, but each has its own misfit feel. Opening and artist reception on July 12, 7 p.m. Ongoing. 1500 Central Ave. 704-334-0122.
