Heath E. Morrison will resign as superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on Thursday, Nov.6 to take care of his ailing mother in Williamsburg, Virginia, he said in a statement released Monday. In the interim, Deputy Superintendent Ann Clark will assume the responsibilities of superintendent. Some city leaders are upset at the secrecy and timing of this decision, as it may hurt chances for the quarter-cent sales tax referendum on the ballot today, aimed in part at funding education pay raises.
Charlotte City Council is addressing a new report on the city's lack of economic mobility. The Queen City came in dead last in a separate study of 50 metro areas released earlier this year by researchers from Harvard University, the University of California-Berkeley and the Treasury Department.
Lena Dunham is pulling out of two European dates on the tour to promote her memoir Not that Kind of Girl. The Girls star is battling allegations that she molested her younger sister. In the book, she details bribing her sibling for kisses, masturbating next to her and sharing a bed until she was 17.
