First Drip (1/26/15): City Council to vote on body cameras, more

Posted By on Mon, Jan 26, 2015 at 9:58 AM

As part of the recently announced initiative Housing First Charlotte-Mecklenburg to end chronic homelessness within two years, a team of 250 volunteers will scour the city later this week to take survey of people living on the streets. Thursday through Saturday, they aim to find out how many people "stay homeless for years because of addictions and/or mental illness."

In what police chief Rodney Monroe calls an effort to build trust with the community, body cameras could be coming to 1,400 CMPD officers. City Council will vote on whether to approve funding, totaling $7 million over five years.

A big winter storm is set to hit the northeast starting today. CNN reports: "The National Weather Service is using terms such as 'life-threatening' and 'historic' to describe the system." Thousands of flights have already been delayed or canceled, including some in Charlotte.

Sounding like that old Destiny's Child song, Sen. Rand Paul told ABC "No, no, no, no, never" about a third Mitt Romney bid for president. Paul is rumored to be considered a run in 2016 himself.
