First Drip (2/18/15): Thanks, Biden; coal ash penalties for Duke, more

Expect traffic delays this evening around the airport, when VP Joe Biden comes to Charlotte for two days. He's bringing Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx with him. If you take North Tryon in the morning into Uptown, you may want to consider another route: the bigwigs will be at at an event at Extravaganza Depot at 10 a.m. Thanks Obam — er, Biden!

The coldest air of the year is creeping our way, with temperatures expected to drop into the single digits.

What's the cost for polluting the environment with coal ash? $100 million. At least, that's what Duke Energy could pay to resolve an ongoing grand jury investigation in the way the utility handles its coal ash.

There may be a breakthrough in AIDS/HIV vaccine research. A new drug tested on monkeys showed some promise in offering them "very, very strong protection."
