LaWana Mayfield spoke with WFAE, explaining her reasoning for voting against the compromised nondiscrimination ordinance. She said a "yes" vote would have told transgender citizens "‘You’re not worthy to be part of this fight with right now.’” The Observer's editorial board placed blame of the proposal's failure at the feet of Mayfield and John Autry.
Police are starting to smelly something fishy about that $4.8 million gold heist that happened on I-95 in North Carolina. Now they're wondering if it was an inside job.
According to a recent survey, the most visited museum in Charlotte is Discovery Place. Last year, the children's museum (which earned more cool points last year with its launch of adult-only Science on the Rocks) brought in nearly 710,000 visitors.
In a win for animal rights activists, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus told the AP it will phase out its elephant acts by 2018.
