First Drip (3/11/15): N.C. Attorney General investigates CIAA service charge, more

Find a possibly biased service charge on your hotel bar receipt that you weren't made aware of? No worries, the. N.C. Attorney General's office is on it. The office's Consumer Protection Division sent the Ritz Carlton a letter yesterday, inquiring more information as to why the hotel instituted a 15-percent service charge during CIAA and how they conveyed that to customers.

Duke Energy is making it rain ... as they pay out fines. First, the utility agreed to pay $146 million to settle a shareholder lawsuit filed after it bought out Progress Energy, based in Raleigh, and ousted its CEO. Shareholders said "they lost millions." Around the same time that news broke, N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources announced it was fining Duke Energy $25.1 million for coal ash contamination around the now-closed Sutton Plant near Wilmington. More fines could come down from the EPA for violating the federal Clean Water Act.

Eleven people are presumed dead after a military helicopter crashed last night during a training exercise. A spokesman from Eglin Air Force Base said seven were Marines a part of a Camp Lejeune-based special operations group, while the aircrew were from a Louisiana National Guard unit.

Two frat boys featured in that racist slur-filled video from University of Oklahoma have issued apologies. Actually, one student apologized; the other had his parents do it for him.
