First Drip (4/29/15): CMPD gets body cameras, Bad Daddy's gets sold, more

CMPD officers in the Metro Division, which includes the Tuckaseegee, Beatties Ford and Statesville Avenue areas, will start sporting body cameras today. The Providence Division will be armed with surveillance later this week.

Bad Daddy's Burger Bar goes big-time: Colorado-based Good Times Restaurants has acquired the local burger chain for $21 million.

An independent review of the dismissal of fire investigator Crystal Eschert showed that the Charlotte Fire Department was right in its decision. Eschert was fired for posting racially insensitive commentary on Facebook, but she says her dismissal was related to her criticisms of renovations at a fire department building. The review did note, "“The circumstances are such that we, too, believe that it is possible Ms. Eschert was the subject of retaliatory termination.”

The Nigerian army says it's rescued hundreds of kidnapped girls in an area where the terrorist group Boko Haram had been known to operate. But there's some uncertainty whether the claim is true. “How could they rescue over 200 women without getting [Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau] or the top B. H. commanders?” said Hussaini Monguno, a security adviser to the governor of Borno State, where the Sambisa Forest is. “How many were killed? Without clear explanation, people will always believe they just want to cover up.”
