First Drip (5/4/15): New UNC Charlotte study supports housing for chronically homeless, more

Posted By on Mon, May 4, 2015 at 8:50 AM

Moore Place, a housing unit for the chronically homeless, saved Charlotte taxpayers more money, says a UNC Charlotte study. "The study showed tenants made 648 fewer visits to emergency rooms and spent 292 fewer days in the hospital (at taxpayer expense) after they moved into apartments," the Observer reports.

A 16-year-old will be charged with attempted murder of a police officer, amongst other charges. Lt. James Quattlebaum was shot in the stomach when responding to a disturbance call in Cornelius.

On Sunday, two gunmen opened fire outside of a Texas conference center, but were shot and killed. Inside, the New York-based American Freedom Defense Initiative was hosting a contest awarding $10,000 to the best cartoon depiction of the Prophet Muhammad. Pamela Geller, the contest organizer, has been described by the Southern Law Poverty Center as "the anti-Muslim movement's most visible and flamboyant figurehead."

Charlotte restaurants made their debut on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on Friday night. Pinky's Westside Grill, Pit Road Bar & Grill and The Tin Kitchen food truck did us proud.
