Lunch Break (10/6/15): Death toll continues to rise in Carolina flooding, MKG out for season

At least 12 people in South Carolina in two in North Carolina have now died in flooding resulting from rains over the weekend, mostly coming from Hurricane Joaquin, which missed the coast completely but still hit the east coast with massive amounts of rain. About 40,000 are without drinkable water and about 1,000 people have been forced into shelters. Dams continued to breach in South Carolina into the evening yesterday and people were still being evacuated from their homes well into the night.
Charlotte Hornets officials announced yesterday afternoon that small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will potentially miss the entire 2015-16 season due to a shoulder injury he suffered during an exhibition game against Orlando on Saturday. MKG, as he's known throughout the league, is seen as crucial to the Hornets' chances for success, and many experts believe this announcement has just about ended the Hornets' hopes for a successful season before it even starts.
A large tree that fell across the intersection of Park and Tyvola roads this morning caused a three-car wreck, police said. No one was injured in the accident, police said, and one driver reportedly drove away after hitting the tree before police arrived on scene. The intersection was closed for more than four hours this morning, but is back open now.
The popular barbecue restaurant Queen City Q has announced a new location, outside of the Queen City. The restaurant's third location will be just up the street in Concord, across the street from the popular Concord Mills mall. The 150-seat location with bar and patio is expected to open by the end of the year.
