The Spinto Band Delaware's Spinto Band are about 10 years into Th' Game, but you'd be forgiven for not noticing, least up until about '06. After its song "Oh Mandy" got favorable buzz on the kind of radio stations that don't move records, they padded the pavement with the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Art Brut. Their newish Moonwink is a pleasant enough affair, chock-full of nutty hooks, syrupy melodies, spiky guitar and synth sass. Have you heard it all before? Of course. Does that mean it won't cause the kind of smile lines that native-stater Joe Biden keeps taking the 'tox for? Mmm-hmm. With The Sammies. Visulite Theatre (Timothy C. Davis)
Cedric Burnside & Lightnin' Malcolm Vocalist and drummer Cedric Burnside, blues legend R.L. Burnside's grandkid, and Mississippi blues guitarist Lightinin' Malcolm continue to propagate the hot Delta and hill country blues made famous by the elder Burnside. The duo's sparse guitar/drums fuse juke joint music firmly rooted in the Delta, but Burnside's power drumming is inlaid with funk and hip-hop. Make no mistake, though, the duo understands the blues and are on the road in support of the freshly released 2 Man Wrecking Crew. Double Door Inn (Samir Shukla)
