Ala MuerteQueens native Bianca Bibiloni records under the Ala Muerte moniker, but don't expect anything remotely NYC-hipster from her excellent debut, Santa Elena (officially out Nov. 25). Bibiloni's songs highlight mood over structure, and opt for mystery over hooks in haunting, drone-y panoramas (drone-o-ramas?) that conjure elements of Raymond Raposa's Castanets, early Black Heart Procession, and Carla Bozulich's gentler side. Bibiloni is responsible for everything on the record, ranging from guitar and loops to viola and recorder, and the result is deliciously dark fare. Opening for Darsombra. Milestone (John Schacht)
