HOT RIZE Newgrass stalwarts since the very beginning, Hot Rize is probably best known for multi-instrumentalist Tim O'Brien (not the author of "Going After Caciatto" and "The Things They Carried"), who plays guitar, mandolin, and a slew of other stringed things with equal aplomb. Pete "Dr. Banjo" Werneck is no slouch, either. Named after a leavening ingredient in Martha White flours and cornmeals, Hot Rize is not averse to a little cornpone, either, often playing the theme song to the old "Martha White Biscuit and Cornbread Time" on Nashville's venerable WSM 650 AM and otherwise cracking wise when the spirit moves them. $22.50-$39.50, McGlohon Theatre, www.blumenthalcenter.org
